A Prayer for the ANZAC Weekend

God of love and liberty,

We bring our thanks today for the peace, freedoms and security we enjoy in this land.

We remember those who in war faithfully served their country, especially the many students from Melbourne Grammar School who served in the armed forces.

We pray for their families and for ourselves whose freedom was won at such a cost.

Make us all a people zealous for peace;

Where there is hatred give love; where there is sorrow, hope; where there is darkness, light and hasten the day when nation shall not lift up sword against nation neither learn war any more.

We pray for victims of the Coronavirus. Eternal rest grant to them and let light perpetual shine upon them.

We pray for families grieving the loss of loved ones and we pray for comfort to those who face this illness alone and strength to those who cannot meet with their loved ones who suffer.

We give you thanks for the health workers across the world who willingly sacrifice their own security and health in order to care for the sick. We pray for nurses and doctors and for all who work to alleviate the suffering of others.

Inspired by their work and in respect of all the ANZACs who fought to maintain the freedoms we enjoy today, grant us all grateful hearts and help us to make the most out of this one, precious life we have been given.

This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.
