While the numbers of COVID-19 infections are going down in the community and we are hopeful of better times ahead, I am sure that you, like me, are devastated to see that our elderly people in aged care here in Melbourne have not been protected properly from COVID-19. A society is judged on the way it protects and looks after its most vulnerable citizens and, in this case, we have certainly not done well enough. If you feel comfortable, you may wish to join me in praying the prayer underneath for the elderly as we wait, watch and hope for a time of safety for our elderly people.
We remember and pray for the elderly
in our society.
We pray for all those
struggling with symptoms
of dementia in its many forms;
mood changes, memory lapses,
confusion and helplessness.
May they know in their
your comforting embrace
amid their daily frustrations,
and continue to realise,
as names and memories fade,
that they are still loved by family,
friends, and especially by you.
We pray for the elderly who have recently died due to the Corona Virus. Eternal rest
grant to them and may light perpetual shine upon them.
We pray for those in our aged care homes who have contracted COVID-19 and we pray for their healing.
We pray for those who care for the elderly in our society; for family members, nurses, nursing home staff, doctors and hospice staff.
Help us all never to lose sight of the elderly in our community
and enable us to always treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve.
We make our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
