An Easter prayer

A Prayer by Rev’d Hans Christiansen, Senior Chaplain

Eternal and Loving God,

We give you thanks for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ which we are celebrating this Easter. May the presence of Christ who endured pain and death on the cross be with us all and give us hope in these uncertain times.

We ask your blessings on all those who work to alleviate the suffering caused from the COVID-19 epidemic. We especially pray that your strength, love and blessings may be upon all the health workers across the world. We pray for healing to those who are sick and for comfort to those who have lost loved ones. We ask that those who have died, through your grace, may pass into your eternal light.

As we live through this period of physical and social isolation, grant us patience to endure the uncertainty of this time and help us to be hopeful, trusting that just as our Lord Jesus Christ had to endure the suffering of the cross before His resurrection, so too will we emerge stronger and more compassionate from this epidemic.

As we collectively slow down our lives, inspire us to embrace simplicity and grant us a renewed sense of joy and peace. We pray that through this crisis we may learn to become more appreciative and thankful for our lives and for each other and above all help us to grow in faith, hope and love.

As we begin Term II here at Melbourne Grammar School, we pray for all our leaders, teachers, staff and students. Uphold us and keep us safe, healthy and strong in mind, body and spirit. Help us all to enjoy the opportunities for learning afforded to us in through this institution; and in all things grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change and the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference.

In the name of the Risen Christ we make our prayers. Amen.
